Part of the big reason Morning Catalyst works so well is its secrecy.  You never know what challenge you’ll
face the next morning; it could be an easy coast, or it could be a gut-wrenching, dripping struggle; it just
might be a personal best.

Physical fitness can also be defined as physical “readiness.”  Can you meet the physical challenges that
life presents?  Are you covering all the bases?  Are you prepared to maintain your health?  More
important, are you ready to improve yourself?

Sometimes, you need to rest.  That’s fine.  Sometimes, you’ll find the challenge easier.  That’s more than
fine.  Other days, though, you won’t be able to complete the workout.  Even if you modify the exercises to
make them a little easier, you’ll gasp your way through the last few seconds, kneeling on the floor.  That’s
okay; that’s part of the challenge.

Which brings up the real point: if you can easily complete every task, why aren’t you finding more
challenging ones?  When it comes to physical fitness, you have to keep moving forward to avoid falling
back.  If you’re just going through the motions – and, hopefully, you’ve mastered the motions of all your old
fitness programs – then you’re not getting better, and you’re not even staying the same. Why?  Well, as
your body becomes more efficient at an exercise, it derives less benefit, because it simply doesn’t have to
put out the same amount of energy to do the same exercises that it once did.  Ever hear of the guy at the
gym who’s “maintaining?”  That guy’s lying to himself.  If you’re not changing the challenge, you’re not
being challenged, and that means you’re spinning your wheels.  Who wants to WASTE time in the gym, or
on the road?

You have to measure yourself against some kind of standard.  Now that BMI has fallen by the wayside
(about time!), how is it possible that people still consider their WEIGHT to be any indicator of physical
fitness?  Instead, it’s much more appropriate to challenge oneself against previous personal bests.
We’ll keep track for you.  We’ll let you know how you’re doing.  You can measure yourself as much as you
want, and we’ll give you comparative measures as you go along.  You can compare yourself to the
average scores of others, as well as your own previous bests.  You can do better than ever before.  You
can win.
